Marxist-Leninism takes socialism and puts in on steroids. It eliminates the concept of personal property, and therefore social class. It is also an atheist philosophy, seeking to eliminate all religion. The end result is that instead of just economic institutions centralized under socialism, in communism the goverment owns everything, including personal thoughts and practices, and the people depend completely on goverment for survival.

Communism is easy because it is virtually a dictatorship with the state behaving worse than out and out capitalists.
Socialism is the theoretical ownership of everything by the workers and the equal distribution of wealth. The sad thing about that is that you need a government to run it with an opposition that is exactly the same. Otherwise you have another dictatorship or a move to something other than socialism when things go wrong.
The good thing about socialism is that facets of it can be applied in a system which is basically capitalist. Such as in education, health and social services. This helps to water down some of the worst aspects of capitalism and the exploitation which can go with it if left unchecked.
Somewhere between socialism and capitalism is the answer. It is certainly not in one to the exclusion of the other.

In a communist state all property is owned by the government. In socialism property can be privately owned, but the economy is controlled by the government, usually through regulation. The Soviet Union was communist, Nazi Germany and modern China are socialist.
