27 years old. JKR came up with the idea in 1991 on a train to London. So naturally the character being 11 is born in 1980. And seeing that they weren't published until 1996 she never changed his birth year. And the book didn't come out consecutively so there you go. And July 31st is JK Rowling's birthday too she turned 42. Surprisingly enough she look 25.

i think JKR picked that day because it is her birthday as well. and i believe he would be 27. i think thats what i had read on mugglenet.com. yesterday was also JKR birthday if you did see that above.
