I don't fall asleep until midnight or after and I try to go to bed early and it still does not help. I am physically active and I still have a lot of energy at night.

Interestingly enough, it's actually not insomnia if you aren't waking up repeatedly during the night. Having trouble falling asleep is a different realm of sleeping disorders. Not saying it to be a know it all, just helping you out because I used to think I had insomnia and I really have something completely different because once asleep, I have a relatively easy sleep.
From when I lay down to when I fall asleep, when I am tired, not when I force myself to sleep, it takes me from a half hour to an hour and a half. That's without any light or sound, both of which keep me awake (although sound sometimes helps.) I also don't get tired until insanely late every night, even when I got up very early and was without energy all day. I usually fall asleep between 3 and 5 am every night.

You don't fall asleep easilly because you are'nt a physical person. If you worked a twelve hour shift you would fall asleep within fifteen minutes. If you rode a bicycle a hundred miles in a day you would fall asleep within fifteen minutes of being ready to go to bed. I know this from experience. When I do'nt have a physically exertive day, I too can suffer from insomnia. I know what it's like to lay in bed with your mind going wild. Unfortunately, if I do'nt physically exhaust myself during the course of a day, I suffer nightmares. If you wanna fall asleep faster and sleep better, get excersize. Lots of it. You'll sleep better and you'll maintain a beautiful body!

Same here. I hate those minutes more like hours before falling asleep because I think of many many things and sometimes scary things that then make me not want to fall asleep. That happened to me today and I ended up going to bed at 6 AM.

It depends on what is going on. Usually, I go to sleep pretty easily but can't stay asleep, awakening about 4-5 hours later and most of the time can go back to sleep.
If I have lots on my mind, it could take hours, thank God, that isn't the norm. I tried to train myself to really wipe what I am thinking out before hoping into bed and the last thing I see is my devotional that I read nightly.

Usually 15min+
I used to have the same problem as you. But when you work out, you get so tired at the end of the day, that you don't even have the energy or mentality to make up a story in your head.

hey im with you there... thing is ive found a way to help myself out. in the day i have a visual mind and at night i think more with my words so when i shut off both, my thoughts just race back in forth inside my head... back to the point... heres how you battle it
turn off all the lights, drown any white noise with a fan, turn off the tv and anything like that, close your eyes, count back from a hundred inside your head(i dont know if picturing the numbers help or not but i picture ripping pieces of paper with that number on it)
