In most states, you must be 18 to serve alcohol in a restaraunt. Some states, 21. Many require a food handlers permit, some dont require anything. To serve liquor in a bar (that is, an establishment that does not sell food) you must be 21 in almost every state. Since your question does not specify what state your in....none of these answers are going to pinpoint the information your seeking. I am almost 100 percent sure that 17 is probably too young no matter what state you live in.

There have been some conflicting answers, but the legal age to serve alcoholic beverages is 18. Some restaurants/bars/retail have their own policy of the age of 21, or signing a legal document. In most cases, when you are hired you are required to sign papers regarding responsible alcohol service, including not comsuming the alcohol while working, or serving a guest to the point of intoxication. You'll have to check with the particular company.

In Australia it is legal for a 17 year old to work in a restaurant as a kitchenhand, cook, waitress. It is completely illegal for a minor (under 18 years of age) to work as a barperson and/or serve alcohol. If caught the owner, manager, and minor will all be fined. The minor can face up to a $2000 fine.

No. Most places have to have someone over 21 handle the alcoholic beverages, if the server who took the order is under 21.
