Recently, a newspaper in my home town showed a picture of a casket of a shooting victim and the grieving family on the front page.

I feel it is shameful of the news industry to do this. Allow people their dignity and respect. Their lives are more important than media sales.

They should definately have shown us what else happened today other than this, i live close to the incident and they are basicly showing and looping material for the victims, to make people aware that there family members may be injured or worse. But the rescue effort is over for tonight and will resume at sunrise tomorrow.

Their job is to video tape them and keep out of the way of rescuers and law officers. It is the editor's job to select and choose what is shown and in what context. If you don't like what you see, contact station management and say so clearly and precisely. The calmer your complaint, the more management will take you seriously.

When news crews go to the scene of a tragedy, they attract attention to the area and therefore the help follows them.

If they don't tell us about the problems and show us the devastation, we'd never know just how much help people need.

Do you know how many Americans read the newspaper?

Not many, my dear...not many at all.
So, sadly, tv is necessary.

there is no respect in the media. it's a dog eat dog mentality, the 1st to show something, like a dog bringing the master a newly acquired stick.

For media usage, the only way they can cover news is by showing physical attributes. Although, i do feel bad for them. And like mentioned above, not many folks read the newspaper.
