First of all relax. It wont be as big of a deal as you think it will.
First the doctor will have you undress privately. You will have to lay one the table. Legs spread open. You will place your feet in "stirrups" which are metal foot rests so it will be more comfortable for you. The doctor will then examine your outer vaginal area for anything that looks abnormal. Then the doctor will place tongs into your vaginal cavity basically to open your vagina a little bigger so he/she can get a better look. Dont worry it is not painful at all. The doctor will use a light and look at everything. Then he/she will place one to two fingers into your vaginal opening to feel anything abnormal. The doctor will also take a scraping of your vaginal walls with a Q-tip. Once again, dont worry this is not painful maybe a little uncomfortable. Your doctor may also do a rectal exam. This is when the doctor will insert one finger into your anus to feel if there is anything abnormal. This is not painful but very uncomfortable as you might well imagine. The doctor might also do a breast exam and teach you how to perform these on yourself. After that your pretty much all done. There is nothing scary about these exams, its just really embarassing, but they need to be done for your health. So just relax and let the doctor do his/ her work.

Okay, the first thing you need to do is RELAX. Every woman should start seeing a gynecologist at 'puberty' and they are USED TO this being your 'first appointment' ... they'll talk with you and ask questions about your 'sexual habits' ... you should be TOTALLY HONEST (your mom does not have to be in the room, and the doctor won't tell anything if you say it's 'private' unless you have been abused sexually). You may be given a 'pelvic exam' but if your hymen is 'intact' (sometimes it breaks from 'non-sexual' things) you won't ... it feels 'weird' especially if the doctor is a man, but they are 'used to it' ... it's sort of 'uncomfortable' but it's necessary for the doctor to get a good idea of your 'female health' and how your 'girl parts' are growing. The doctor will 'look at your cervix, and the walls of your vagina, and will 'palpate' to feel your uterus, tubes, and ovaries to make sure everything is 'healthy' ... s/he may put a finger up your bottom to make sure there are no 'tears' that can effect your vagina.
If you were my daughter or granddaughter, I'd take you out for a big ice cream sundae after, to 'celebrate' this BIG STEP you are taking ... when you see a gynecologist for the first time, you are being a 'responsible woman' ... and since that is what you want to be, I know you'll do just fine.

A lot of it depends on what you're going in for. If this is just your first time, then expect to talk to the physician. Please tell whoever is taking you if you are not comfortable with the doctor being a male or female.
My 13-year-old had bleeding problems, and we took her to the GYN physician. She did not have to have a stirrup exam, but we went prepared in case. She and her doctor had a long talk. If you do need an exam, insist that they need to walk you through it. Have them explain it all to you. If you need some time to take it in and process it, make another appointment and come back when you're more prepared. If you have a vaginal exam, the doctor will professionally cover you with tablecloth-looking thing and only look at the parts as he/she goes through the exam.
Remember, these docs work for you (or whoever holds your insurance). Because of you, they earn their living. Don't ever do something that you don't feel comfortable with at your GYN. You're very young, and unless there is a very big problem, there's no huge rush.

Don't be scared, it is very interesting actually. They will want to examine your vagina and they'll do that with a small device that will feel just a little cold at first, they swab inside (does not hurt) and then will look at that. The doctor will then feel for your ovaries and ask you some questions. Answer fully and truthfully.
If you have any questions about your body, it's a good idea to ask the doctor while you are there.
All women do this honey, there is nothing to worry about.

I was really scared my first time too. Relax it doesn't hurt at all. they put a swab up inside you to get some of your.....whatever the stuff is called and thats it. there is nothing to be embarrased about because they see lots of women every day and trust me yours is not the worst. then they'll do a breast exam which is just where they feel of your breasts and make sure you have no lumps. That's the whole thing. Doesn't hurt and its quick.

They are probably going to do a pelvic exam and take a pap smear. I didn't have my first appt until I was 18. I was REALLY scared too, but it's not that bad at all, just a little uncomfortable.

first remind yourself that every woman has to do this and that your doctor sees naked bodies etc...all day long.... when i remind myself of that, it always calms me down and makes it not so weird.
they will ask you questions about your period, if your sexually active or not, if your experiencing anything unusual...
they will then have you put a robe on...they leave the room when you do that. then they'll examine you- the top half and bottom half....its really not that bad. they'll talk to you the whole time, so that you feel comfortable.

Ask them to warm up the duck bills, lol. Breath deeply and relax because they have a hard time doing the exam when you are tense.

It depends on why you are seeing a GYN doc as to what they will do. You need to post more info.
