if one travels at 500 miles per hour and the other at 550 miles per
hour, how long will it take for them to be 4200 miles apart?

Together they are traveling 500 + 550 = 1050 miles per hour apart.

To reach 4200 miles, it would take:

4200 / 1050 = 4 hours.

Checking the answer:

plane 1: 500 * 4 = 2000 miles away
plane 2: 550 * 4 = 2200 miles away in the opposite direction
combined distance = 2000 + 2200 = 4200 miles

Rate of separation is 550 + 500 = 1050 mph
distance = rate * time so

time = 4200/1050 = 4 hr

Plane 1
d = 500 t

Plane 2
d = 550 t

500 t + 550 t = 4200
1050 t = 4200
t = 420 / 105 = 84 / 21 = 4
Time = 4 hours

Two planes, one travelling at 500mph and the other at 550mph, are travelling a combined total of 1050mph. Divide 4200 by 1050, and you get 4. 4 hours.

For increasing cubic binomials the final formulation is as follows: (a + b) ^ 3 = a^3 + 3*a^2*b^a million + 3*a^a million*b^2 + b^3 on your case, a is x and b is -y^5 So (x - y^5)^3 = x^3 + 3*x^2*(-y^5)^a million + 3*x^a million*(-y^5)^2 + (-y^5)^3 Simplified: =x^3 - 3x^2*y^5 + 3x*y^10 - y^15 :D
