long enough to get to 3,000 hits, maybe 3 more years. I think if he plays long enough, he will be a Hall of Famer and will get to 3,000 hits, he's 40 years old now.

I take that back, he has 11 gold gloves, not 9.

If Ozzie Smith is a HOF shortstop, so is Omar. Omar's offensive numbers are better, as of today he has one fewer Gold Gloves (may get another this season), and has the highest fielding percentage of all-time for shortstops.

I realize he's got a lot of support, but right now, I just don't see him getting elected. (As he is still playing, this could change.) Yeah, he's got the sparkly D, but in this era, the best shortstops are delivering the big O as well -- Jeter, Tejada, Garciaparra for a while, and the out-of-position titan named ARod. And in recent years, Larkin (HOF worthy) and Ripken. No matter how good his glove, Vizquel's bat doesn't stand a chance next to his contemporaries, and that really does matter (as does position).

So, no, I don't think so, but would be happy to be wrong about this.

OMG, omar vizquel has almost as many basehits as the cheater bonds* and did it in three less years???? thats incredible.. and just think omar vizquel isnt an a hole, probably doesnt cheat on his wife, probably pays the irs just like the rest of us, and isnt connected to balco or didnt admit in grand jury testimony to using the clear??? thats pretty good omar... if bonds* can cheat his way into infamy and get in and vizquel can do it honestly, then yes, vizquel is a future hof....just think if bonds* didnt use steroids, vizquel would be the better player..and playing a harder position to play than bonds*. wow, what a thought. heres another... if you took away about 300 or so of bonds* steroid infested homes, why vizquel would have more hits than bonds*. just incredible...go omar!!! no wonder why bonds* cheated..

Wikipedia says 11 gold gloves. Does that help? I think he's a lock. He was overshadowed in his prime by Ripken, Jeter, Garciaparra, and Rodriguez, but the Hall of Fame voters will remember him.

He has the best fielding percentage of any shortstop in HISTORY!!! So many players are in the hall for their offensive numbers..what about defense?? why not a guy who played one of the hardest positions with more reliability than anyone, ever?

if the ozzie can get in, omar better get in. he is one of the best if not the best SS to play the game. arguably the best defensive SS ever and he is top 2 in hits by a SS.

IF he gets to 3,000 hits he will be in the hall. His offense hasn't been all that great so he may not make it his first few years of eligiblity.
