He is the best in the NFL but i have to see him play for at least 4 or 5 more years before i can label him that. But i feel he is better than Tony Gonzalez but he has been around longer so gates will have to build up his years of good play before we can say ever

No way. He is too young to be considered amongst the best. Ditka, Winslow Sr., Shannon Sharpe, T. Gonz..... all of these guys put together year after year of being the best at their position. Gates may be considered by a lot of people to be the best tight end in the league right now, but personally, I would not give him that distinction because he needs to work more on his blocking. A tight end is not just a receiver....otherwise he would just be called a receiver. A blocking tight end is equally important.

Antonio is really good, but Kellen Winslow (Sr.) and Ozzie Newsome were better for longer. If Gates can put up the kind of career that Kellen and Ozzie did, he'll be mentioned in the same breath as those two. And even though I despise the Raiders, Dave Casper was awfully good, too.

You probably don't know your football history because the greatest tight end in Charger's history was Kellen Winslow Sr
Look at Tom Matte [Hall of Fame tight end of the Baltimore Colts], Russ Francis of the 49ers, Don Warren of the Redskins to name a few over time. Gates is good but it is too early to call him the all time best tight end in history

my how quickly people forget shannon sharpe. he was something special at TE. antonio gates has a long way to go before even being mentioned with guys like gonzalez, winslow sr., or ozzie newsome.

he has all the potential to be the best, but to say so now is premature. sorry if thats not what you wanted to hear.

Not yet he has a long way to go or a lot more football games to play. But if he continues to put up numbers like in his last couple of seasons he has a chance.

It gong to be tuff.
