Your not the only one. My hubby strongly believed that HE didn't need the baby gate up, cause the baby never went towards the stairs when he was watching him. So I get a phone call at work, and he says he now agrees with me on why the gate should be up, but didn't want to tell me the baby fell down the stairs. He fell down 7 carpeted steps, to a linolium landing. He was fine. Babies bones are still flexible, and hard to break, and unless you see a knot on his head, I doubt there is a concussion. As of that time, my son has fallen down the steps 4 more times. Now my hubby uses the gates! LoL

It's ok, this sort of thing happens to everyone. My 4 month old rolled off the couch and that freaked me out, I can only imagine what a fall down the stairs would be like. But also my 2 yr old brother took a walk across a busy street and is fine. Things like this just happen, the second you look away they are doing what they're not suppose to be doing: Freaking you out

My boys have had so many bumps that i am now use to it and just watch for signs if they are serious. My kids are climbers so they climb, and what goes up must come down right so they end up falling everytime. I try to catch them and stop them from climbing but i can't always get them in time. Accidents happen. All we can do is learn from it and know next time to try to prevent it before it happens. You will be ok. I remember saying with my first son that i would be surprised if he made it to 5 without a broken bone and he turned 5 today and *knock on wood* no broken bones.

He will be fine if the Dr.'s told you this.
Yes, my son did the same thing except he fell when he was with his grandmother and they had an "L" shape staircase with iron bars. He fell hitting his head on the bars, and he had a lump the size of an egg.
He screamed his head off, from what my mother-in-law said, and she placed ice on it. As long as the child did not loose consciousness, he is probably fine. Watch him to make sure he does not vomit. This can be a sign to bring him back to the doctors.
My son did this when he was 2yrs old and now he is 14 and just fine.
It happens, don't kick your self for it. He will be ok.

hey, when I was... yeah, about his age, I fell down the stairs too. what I have to remember that by is a little barely noticable scar on my chin. Hey, don't worry so much about it! it happens to everyone! we are only humans! they are only babies! now he knows better than to go that way =) so, you are a great mum, I can tell. You come all the way to Yahoo Answers to ask a question like this, then it must be that you are a good mum ... just watch for the gate, ok?

Yea as long as you took him to the doctors there should be nothing to worry about, although if you still have concerns take him back to the doctor in a few days and just get an overall checkup. My son i 13months and he was running (attempting to) in the kitchen and fell he had a huge bulging purple bruise on his head i was scared to death, i rushed him to the emergency room and they did a check up and said he was fine just a bump and it went away a few days later. Theres no need to worry but its always better safe than sorry. Hope it helps, take care and dont worry.

I am sure its happened to other before. The important thing is the lesson learned in it, however. Babies are real fast and get faster as they go from crawling to walking to running. Its a lot of work to try to keep things safe for them. Even then bumps and bruises are just part of life with children. There will probably be many more dr visits and ER visits for you in the future!

Awww, I'm sorry that happened. If your Dr. said hes OK then dont worry. Your son probably cried cause he was scared, not hurt! Things happen---any mom can tell you that!
My 5 month just old fell out of his stroller (my dad unstrapped him for comfort) onto the carpet. He did not make a peep but it freaked me out!
I walked into the living room and he was laying on his belly on the floor!

You did the right thing by taking him to the doctor. Babies are fast, and it wasn't intentional don't beat yourself up. I havent' had the saame thing happen to me but my daughter fell off the bed once, I felt awful too. Just last month the same thing happened to my sister. I think that most babies do have run in's with gravity from time to time. All we can do is stay on our toes, and try to prevent it.

It's alright, it was an honest mistake. Your baby is fine and you should just be elated that he's ok. Just.... don't go moving baby gates until he's old enough to go up and down them without falling, or unless you're there to supervise, because young children? Are just like cats. if there is a place they know they are not supposed to be, they will do everything in their power to get there.
