there is nothing more you can do but pray for them. it could have happened in any place. call me a fanatic if you want but i guess its their fate. that's why we should always be "ready". we don't know what would happen to us at any one time. be consoled by the fact that the Lord has called them and that they are in a better place.
i guess the engineers thought that the bridge was still strong enough. lets hope such presumptions don't cause us any more lives in the future.

It wasn't major construction at all, just some routine maintenance that goes on in Minnesota 24/7. They had the last inspection in 2005-2006 and were going to have another this year. The bridge was suppose to be safe until atleast 2020, which is when they predicted a total new bridge. They do not know why the bridge collapsed yet and will start an investigation as soon as possible.

I feel really bad as well. Very sad.
I feel even though there was minor construction being done on the bridge, one witness said they chose to take the other bridge because when they went to approach it, the traffic was just stopped. With all that weight from traffic, it made it weak and collapse. Even though with high traffic, cars, trucks, etc. drive over it at about 55 MPH and do not stay in one spot. The bridge may shift from weight and vibration but dead still and cars sitting was dead weight and it coldnt take it.

I live close to it, it is VERY freaky, and it makes you question what we are driving on everyday! There was a bus loaded with kids coming home from a field trip. 2,000 of the bridge collapsed, the whole thing! With about 600 of it collapsing over the mississippi river of I-35W. Seven are dead so far and over 40 injured and six in critical condition, and being so close it really is freaky to know that anyone could have loved ones on that bridge. not all of the deaths on the bridge were from drowning, because only 1/3 of the whole bridge fell into the Mississippi.

I feel sad for them, too. An I-Beam from an overhead pass fell on top of a truck yesterday here in Sacramento, CA, and the driver was unhurt. And then the bridge collapsing today, what a huge shock. But construction was not the true reason. I would suspect years of heavy winter and freezing cold weather cracked the concrete...
May God be with the survivors and the families of those deceased.

The bridge was undergoing maintenance, no major construction. It should have been ok to drive on.... No one knows yet why the bridge collapsed. I work at one of the hospitals a couple of miles from the bridge and just got home, I saw some of the victims, it is horrible.....

Because they believed the foundation was strong enough to hold up during the repair work. In hindsight I'm sure they would have done things differently. Feeling sad is and understatement I'm such a sensitive person I feel devastated it is so horrifying viewing the pictures and putting yourself in their shoes. God have mercy on us all.

they just don't think.
unless its to empty the rode of traffic...
thats just dissapointing...its a big deal, who knows if the rest of the bridges collapse...its them to blame. just focusing on getting the story.
drowning with severe injuries in your car or not...very horrifying to think about
