First start with your own agent that carries your auto insurance as stated because you will most likely qualify for a multi-policy discount. Let your agent know upfront that you are going to shop his rate around a little just to see what else you may be able to find and this way he will most likely give you his best rate. You can then shop it around if you want or just get the policy through your current agent. Renters insurance is so cheap as it is for the most part, depending on whether you are insuring any valuables in particular that you will notice very little difference in quotes for the most part. Best of luck.

Start with the agent that you currently have for your auto insurance. Often they will give you a discount on both policies (auto & renters) for having both with them.

I used to go with allstate but agree with other poster that you will get a discount when you go with the same agent who has your car insurance. Rental insurance is pretty cheap too..make sure though you get replacement value and not actual cash value.. the difference is huge when it comes to reimbursement time.

Shop around. Then ask your agent. That way you'll have some idea about what he is telling you. Always remember that your agent works for the insurance company. He/she is not your friend.
