By debit card, I mean bank machine cards.

Both are OK here.
However you can use Debit card every where but for Traveler's check you have to go to certain banks or similar offices only.

So Debit cards would be more convenient.

You can use both. Debit cards are widely accepted. Many international banks are having branch networks in India. While you are using at the ATM's other than the bank issued the card, they will be levied a nominal charge from you.

Whileboth are fine, Debit Cards will be the best.

Use your debit card. You can use traveller's cheque also.
