I have an appointment with the gyno and i'm going with my mom. im 17 and on birth control for acne. I'm going to the gyno for the first time because my dermotalogist suggested that i go and get my birth control perscriptions from the gyno instead of them. I've had sex before but i dont want my mom to know about it. Will the doctor tell my mom that i have had sex if i have an std or anything? and if i tell the doctor that i have had sex will they take tests for stds or anything?

No, they will not tell your parents anything if you ask them.

Doctor-patient confidentiality.

You are now free to discuss ANYTHING you want with your doctor.

They will not test for STD's unless you ask for those tests. They do not even know you are having sex unless you tell the doc but you MUST tell the doc everything so he can look for problems. There is not real need for you to be seeing a GYN when your regular doc can write you scripts for birth control but if the appointment is all set up then keep the appointment. You also DO NOT NEED to have you mom with you in the exam room. You are certainly old enough that you can tell her you want to do this alone. They will not tell your mom you have been having sex but if you take her in the exam with you she will hear you tell the doc you are sexually active and will know. You must tell the doc the truth. Also if you have had sex you would be wise to get tested for ALL STD's just to be on the safe side.

Your doctor cannot tell your mom about anything because medical information is confidential. They won't automatically test you for STDs, but if you had sex without a condom then you should ask to get tested anyway because a lot of STDs can have no symptoms. If you test positive for an STD, you may get antibiotics depending on what the disease is. In that case, you may have some explaining to do if your mom wants to know why you need antibiotics.

You probably should be tested anyway. I'm not saying I think you have something, but there's nothing wrong with being tested!

I'm not 100%. bit I wouldn't think that a doctor would say anything to your parents that you don't want them to tell. It's your place to tell your parents these things...not the doctor. If your mom isn't going to be present in the room, then maybe you could mention something along these lines to your doctor just to clear it up.

Plus, I believe there's a little thing called doctor/patient confidentiality.

Nothing, but make sure you make it clear to the DR. and anyone else who has your records. Make sure u tell them they do not have permission to tell your mom or dad or anybody but you info. And if they have to call u back for something they are not to leave messages & can only talk to u, & not to leave a message on a machine. Tell them not to mail u results & to call u. List only your cell number as a contact #. Sometimes the Dr. have so many people working for them they get careless. Cover all the basis.

BE CAREFUL HERE ,THIS IS WHY ,THERE ARE PAPERS YOU WILL HAVE TO FILL OUT WHEN YOU GET TO THE DOCTORS OFFICE, SUCH AS YOUR MEDICAL HISTORY WHEN YOU START FILLING THEM OUT AMONG THOSE PAPERS THERE IS A FORM THAT IF YOU SIGN IT THE DOCTORS MAY DISCUSS WITH YOUR PARENTS ANY OR ALL OF WHAT TREATMENTS ARE BEING DONE TO YOU ,SO MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERY PAPER CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU SIGN.

It would be against the law for the doctor to tell your mother anything about your appointment. You can ask her to wait out in the waiting room if you feel more comfortable.

If you get pregnancy tests/STD tests/pap smears, it will show up on your bill. And technically, your mom still has the right to your medical records on hand. So you MIGHT want to come clean now.

they will test you, they will not tell your mom you are entitled to doctor patient privilege. Just ask to go in by yourself so you can talk to your doctor alone. Although I would tell your mom if you think she can handle it, i told my mom and nothing occurred.

The doctor is not required to share any information with your mother, unless you've got a serious illness or life-threatening disease.
