A tribe opens a casino for economic stability, strong opposition files lawsuits. Although, before the casino, the tribe was so poor and invisible depending on gov't funds, and smoke shops. Many of it's people lived in squalor, and no one off the reservation cared about the tribe's existence at all. Now that the tribe has become business-savvy and holds some major cards, it's a big deal all of a sudden. Is it because they are no longer at the mercy of being under the gov'tal thumb?? Or some other reason?

The tip of this lance is the Xtian fundamentalist that say Gambling is a SIN, they're backed up by people who've WILLINGLY gambled away their homes in vegas, and spread the false rumor that you can put your title up as a wager. ALL casino's are CASH only. What you put on your credit card is the same as in VEGAS. it's YOURS. Then there's the RACIST that hide behind "they're ruining our environment" and "we didn't move out here to have to look at some big casino"
On one hand they THINK we get all this FREE stuff, completely oblivious to the fact the alleged "Govt FUNDS" are in reciprocation for the Natural Resources they TAKE off our lands ie. Timber, Natural gas, Coal Etc. They don't even pay "FAIR MARKET VALUE".

On the other hand, they can't stand the idea that NOW some of us have the money to BUY politicians like THEY have for CENTURIES now. And they piss and moan about what we DO have. STILL today I've heard , "why don't you put a casino in your living room?" And I don't live ON the REZ!!
They've even made it HARDER now to acquire land and ADD it to the rez. . . .

I think they just like to complain

If the Government is not making a profit from the businesses, you can bet there will be opposition.
What amazes me is that a good percentage of the revenue brought in by these casinos is given to the state in which they function. Not to mention the majority of businesses in the vicinity are not tribal owned, or even indian owned. Perhaps the issue is with the other greedy business owners. Hmmmm???

Natives are still under the gov.'s thumb. They are considered 'wards of the state'. Just, now they can play the money game and that includes getting sued. Money makes people care.......about money!. Odd, isn;t it?

basically, they were marginalized, pushed aside, generally far from economic opportunities.

now that they've found a loophole that allows them to make up for that, people want to close that loophole.

fair's fair. leve by the deals you make. let them do it; we've taken everything else from them.
