Just taking a poll about strippers. What do you think of them? Think that a job defines who you are? Do you think it's an ok profession? Do you think it's ok for mothers to be strippers?

I'm just curious. My boyfriend and I have an ongoing debate about this. I'm not saying strippers are bad people but I think they are making a bad choice by being a stripper. I find it to be a degrading job and think it's unacceptable for a mother to be a stripper. I think it's setting a horrible example for the children and will bring shame to them depending on age. I have way more respect for people working at a job like McDonald's rather than being a stripper any day.

My boyfriend thinks it's fine. He says they make good money so why not do that and spend time with your kids and then go strip at night while they sleep.

What do you think?

I have a good friend who stripped for 4 years as a means to help pay the bills. She is a truly beautiful person inside and out. She just got married and has a little girl. Her boyfriend (now husband) was completely fine with it because he was secure in himself. I'm not in the position (nor is anyone else) to judge someone like her. Her

I truly hate judging people but I don't think to highly of strippers. I believe that they are basically selling their bodies. They are dancing and taking off their clothes while men pay to see them. And I always here, "Well they're doing what they have to do to survive or make ends meet" but there are other ways to make money than to become a stripper. Being a stripper is taking the easy way out. I would pick up cans on side of the road or work 2 jobs before I ever become a stripper.

I would never take off my clothes for money; stripping doesn't sound like a very moral occupation. I also find it degrading, women who strip don't have much respect for themselves. Stripclubs are for perverted men who aren't getting enough action at home and have to stoop to paying for it in a smoky nightclub. Is that where the world's coming too? Men mesmerized by women selling their bodies to their hungry eyes, and eventually from eyes to....? There 's a very thin like between stripping and prostitution.

And because they feel its the only thing left, that is a poor excuse. Working at fast food restaurants, babysitting, doing housework, those are all better than stripping. You're being lazy if you rather take off your clothes than get a respectable job.

I did not choose for stripping to be a more lucrative job than, say, waitressing, so I cannot fault a woman who chooses a better-paying job to support her children.

I do not believe stripping is a sign of poor character, and pigeon-holing such women as "shameful" or "poor mothers" are just slapping arbitrary labels on them - a retreat to the pathetic old notions of women being only either "virgins" or "wh-res."

I have more respect for strippers than, say, a "respectable" corporate executive responsible for theft or poisoning of until thousands or even millions of people.

If you find it degrading, then don't do it. I'm not going to judge a woman on such superficial grounds, myself.

I agree with you. I truly feel bad for them. If they think that stripping is the only way out of debt or the only way to put food on the table, then that's extremely sad... However, some strip to pay for college, which is iffy in my book. Doing something that is frowned upon and may come back to haunt you later in life for a chance to pay your way through college and actually *not* fail at life... I don't know. I think I'd have to analyze and understand the circumstances leading up to their decision to strip before I pass any judgments.

If you are poor and really need the money to support yourself and your family and you have a nice body, it will make you a ton of more money than any other blue collar job. And it's not like your selling yourself on the street, just showing off your body. And who hasn't seen one of those before? It's a lot better than being a prostitute.

But if you're just doing it for fun, you might as well join the Adult Film Industry.

Bad for self esteem to do a job that is based solely around how you look. Or any job that requires no thought really. We ARE defined largely by what we do- as we do this same task most days in our lives so of course it has a big effect on who we are and become.

It's easy, good money but is demeaning to the women who participate. Any of them could do anything else. I am not a mother but I am thinkin' that mothers want to do something their kids can be proud of and happy to say, "my mother is...". I think they should do something that they have peace doing and know that those close to them have peace as well. It's also a matter of respectin' one's self. There is a lot in this topic but that's generally what I think about it.

If they are doing the job to better their position, great. If they are doing it as a life career, shame on them.

McDonalds doesn't pay $75k a year and as a stripper you don't need a gym membership. Anyone that sees them at the club working can't speak on her character because they were there too.

i think their bad but u no men, naked and on a pole and their there dating or not, we're girls so we don't feel that other women or even men should display their bodies in unintended ways. Personally i think its disrespectful 2 the human race and please people have some respect for your body. And I think that by partaking in those events your giving other humans the right to judge you in ways that aren't good. But..I'm not trying to judge strippers and be a weird activist!!!
