My mother passed away in '03 and my father is re-marrying to a woman he has been with for over three years. What would be an appropriate gift for me to give?

That's a tough one. I'm assuming they have everything they need. What about certificates for something that they can do together like a dinner at a nice restaurant or maybe a couples massage?

I'm sorry to hear about your mother. Both of my parents have passed away, so I know how that feels.

The gift you give depends on how much you want to spend and what the new couple already has in the way of possessions. Chances are, they will have most things they need for the home such as appliances, dishes, pots and pans, etc.

I would suggest a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant. Most restaurants offer them and you can usually get them in any amount you want. You can call the restaurant ahead of time to make sure they sell them. This way, they can use the gift certificate anytime they want and the mood strikes them. Also, if the gift certificate you buy does not cover the cost of the entire meal, they can use it to pay for the bulk of the meal.

Give them an IOU on the book you're going to publish once you take some time away from asking questions on YA and sit down to writing. Indicate that it will be an autographed first edition copy. In the meantime, give them a generic gift card.

Sorry to hear about your mom! I lost both of mine in 05 & know how painful it is! A gift certificate to whatever they like...restaurant, movie theater, museum, video store, etc.... They probably already have all the practical wedding gifts?

im sorry about your mother sweetie.

hmm, depends on what you want to spend and what they like...can't go wrong with a nice gift card to a store or restaurant..those are always needed and appreciated, along with a thoughtful card. or - do them a honeymoon of sorts - that greatly depends on what you want to spend. you could get them an expedia card or credit to help towards a getaway for them ...

Find out their favorite shopping store, then give them a Gift Certificate.

That way, whatever they get will not be returned.
