First, Canada is a tad bigger that Mass. Canadians who get married anywhere in Canada are considered married anywhere else in Canada. Those from other countries, however, are left with an attractive certificate and the knowledge they have had a marriage ceremony, but no legal recognition when they go home. Folks who marry in Mass. are only legally married in that state. Marriage is governed by the State.

It depends on the state law in the U.S. and the country's law abroad. Generally speaking, gay couples are not legally married once they leave their home areas; however, they and many others probably do consider them still married.

Your marriage will be valid only in countries that recognize gay marriages as legal....the US will not acknowledge it...That said, if you do marry in Canada and then the US legalizes it...you will probably be deemed as having been already married.

No, if the state or country that they live in doesn't recognise gay marriage, then they are not legally married anywhere but where they are married. It just another game of "dress up and pretend"

it depends on the law of where they reside, whether they recognize any out-of-state/nation marriage, or if they have specifically precluded gay marriage.
