I'm a single mom looking for a safe, clean, non-ghetto area near zip 92113, I don't have to be IN that zip (if it's bad) but my school will be there, so I prefer to be within 15 mins driving distance.
Thanks!

Also please let me know if these areas are Ok, or BAD.
Normal Heights, El Cajon, University Heights, La Mesa, Chula Vista, or near the Airport.

You want to stay away from that area, really, you have two options, go south to the east part of National City (91950) or head out to east county, a little bit further but well worth the drive when it comes to rents and places to live. I would recommend La Mesa (91941-91942) it is real nice rent range any from the mid 800's to the high 1700's for a real nice place. It is a nice drive to that area.

Oh BTW National city rent range from the low 700's to the mid 1400's depending on what you want. If in National City try to stick to anything east of Highland Ave north of 30th St south of Division St and as far east as Woodman St.

I think La Mesa is a good choice, but as others have said, some areas are better than others. If you don't mind spending a few minutes working with a crime mapping program for the area that is not real user friendly, once you get it working it will show maps of the various areas of the city and county and the crime locations for each area you pick. I'll give you several links since one may work better for you than others.

This mapping system so interested people when it went up about a year ago that the site crashed for days cause everyone wanted to see the crimes in their neighborhoods. You also might want to use the Megan's Law website for a reading on local pedophile locations http://www.meganslaw.ca.gov/

You'll be able to tell pretty quickly from the Megan's Law website the areas to avoid. Along El Cajon Blvd and University I think are a strong concentration of people with sex crime histories, cause they group in the least expensive rental areas. Sorry, just a fact of life.

Good luck!

I'm not sure of the zip code or where it is exactly... however... Normal Heights, El Cajon and Chula are NOT GOOD! Stay away! University Heights is ok, depending on where it is. La Mesa is actully the better one... if you're near Baltimore.

Normal heights, el cajon, university heights, la mesa, chula vista are not good...near the airport is good but expensive. i recomend pacific beach, close to everything, or hillcrest.
if u speak spanish, is better chula vista or national city, they r not that dangerous like americans think. Defenitly Logan Heights is too dangerous 92113. Dont live there, is the cheapest one but the most dangerous. trust me, i know all areas.

I have lived in Normal Heights and University Heights. The problem with these neighborhoods is they both have good streets and bad streets- much like all old neighborhoods in San Diego (both were established in the 30's.)
I love Normal Heights- you can walk to everything and there are great areas in it, the closer you are to Adams Ave the better. 4600- 4800 blocks of any of the number (like 33rd) or president (like Madison) streets.
In University Heights if you stay north of El Cajon Blvd you will be fine-
Hillcrest is also very nice as is Kensington if you can afford it- if you can find a rental there you will not be dissapointed.

92113 is not what you're looking for because it's everything that you don't want. although it think it has gotten a little better it's still ghetto and there's gangs and crime in that area. i lived and i went to the schools in that area for 10 + years and nothing ever happend to me but you always hear stories in the news about crimes. normal heights is almost the same. out of all the places you mentioned i would prefer to be in chula vista because it has changed alot and the streets are now better and although you pay a little bit more you get what you need from your tax money.

It's cool if it's unique, but a lot of the time it's just something that's been done before. Or it's half a big gesture, like he tried to do something special to seem cool but was afraid to get too crazy. If you're going to do it, then do it all the way! Also, when it's a big promposal in front of a bunch of people, I imagine it would be a lot of pressure to say yes, which is unfair. Most importantly, it depends on the person your asking's personality. Would they really want to be asked the way that you're thinking of? If not, then don't do it - you're only thinking about yourself(trying to show off to other people). I personally would hate a public promposal, but a personal one away from other people might be nice. Don't go over the top if that person doesn't like over the top.

University Heights, and Chula Vista are your best bets.
The airport areas can be noisy. Lots of air traffic.

No, I'd stay away from 92113.
I think that LaMesa and the "College Area" around SDSU are your best bet.
I recently found this cool tool to rate an address based on its walkability score.
www.walkscore.com
You want your score to be as high as possible so that you have lots of things close by so you don't have to drive everywhere.
Also remember that SD has a decent and improving trolley system that you might be able to use to save time, money, and stress!
