Hello, I'm kinda like you in that I don't want to be limited by one choice. So what I 've done, is to paint each room in my home two different colors. One above & one below. Separated by either a border or wood moulding. For instance in my room, The upper area is a metallic tanzanite and the lower area is a deep metallic topaz. I love the rich jewel tones. I achieved this affect by first painting the 'backgroung color' in a' flat' paint, the color of the 'jem' I wanted to represent. Then I 'rag textured paint over the top with a deeper color in a metallic paint. I usually get a lot of "wows!" when I invite people in for tours. In another room the upper walls are 'bubble gum' pink. And the lower section is,powdery periwinkle. I like to pick colors that contrast as well as compliment, without competing for my attention. It was nice to answer a 'sweet& simple' question. Thanks for the opportunity to share. If you're ever in my neck of the woods, stop in for a 'spot o' tea' and a tour! sincerely, Rose

Male ( very creative )
What I did was paint the wall blue. I wanted to do something different though, so I divided my wall in half along the diagonal plane.
Now I painted one plane a shade of Blue, and the other plane a slightly darker shade of Blue. It really gives it a nice effect of being at two different levels to your eye.
You could even take it further by painting the one plane one color, which should be your light color, and the other a completely different color ( the darker color). I would think the best effect will be if the first color is within the second color to some degree. Just like Blue and Aqua go together well because Blue is in the Aqua to some degree.
As I move along the walls of my room I reverse my planes so the opposite walls have the same color planes, you don't have to but i did.

I am female.
my walls are 2 tones of gold. I dressed the windows with some gold and red striped long curtains, red accents and some antiques along with my wall of childhood black & white framed collage of pictures. Accent with flowers and lamps. A red color called Hollyberry is fabulous! 1 wall would look good red anywhere if you use it on the right one as a focal point. I actually use pink in my home, but unless you look really close, you cannot tell unless something darker is in front of it. Good choices!

Well mine is a deep red with white molding. My furniture is black with silver accents. I tried to stick to kind of an Asian theme. I've had it this way for almost 4 years now and haven't tired of it yet. Oh btw I'm a female.
