there is the possibility of a god but who is god

Scientifically,I find a Abrahamic God (Christian, Islamic, or Jewish) not only an impossibility, but an immoral nightmare. Have you ever read the Old Testament? Why is it that some of the Bible is not "taken literally anymore"? The Word Of God changed? Or we just don't like to think that God could be so truly awful? Not to mention that that would mean that the Earth is ten thousand years old. And all the animals were created in one day? The evolution of a single species as we know them now would take hundreds of years (horses used to be carnivorous predators with finger-like appendages. Now they are prey with hooves. The fossil record is most complete, and this supposedly happened in ONE SINGLE DAY?)

Philosophically, I merely find the idea of an omniscient and omnipotent God to be strange, particularly that he loves us. God supposedly loves all of us-it's our sin he cannot stand. But he creates us KNOWING well in advance the types of sins we were going to commit, and knowing before we were even born that we were going to burn in hell, he still did nothing to change our lives. A christian would have some sort of case for God on this, like he was merely watching a play, and that he let us have free will, etc. But it still seems kind of harsh, doesn't it?

I would recommend reading The God Delusion, among Richard Dawkin's other works, such as The Selfish Gene. Whether you are of faith or not, I think a healthly dose of debate is always beneficial. I also have enjoyed this website, although I could argue, and win, some of their points from a Christian perspective, it makes for interesting reading.

Edit- For those who ahve reccomended reading the Bible to understand God and Jesus, I offer this charming little quote-
"The Bible became the infallible word of God. How do we know it's the word of God? Because it says so. How do we know what it says is true? Because it's the word of God. Biblical criticism was not encouraged."

And the idea that science cannot explain everything, such as "why are we here?" is true-but it isn't all God or science. There are a few fields in between, you know. Not that that question will ever be answered satisfactorally, but the for our purposes, leave it as "unsolvable". Thank you.

No, God is supposed to be supreme, eternal all powerful, and created all. If he created all he must also know all as well of all time being eternal. So he created evil knowing this, and the a imperfect world demanding a sinfree one which makes no sense. God being all powerful not able to over power, god being all knowing and not knowing. God being careless but considered caring does not make sense. Rational people know a sinfree world demands a perfect world. He is so supreme that he cannot manage or know how to defeat his creations even though he should know what makes them tick. And lets innocent beleivers and good people suffer or die. Breaks his own commandments and mass murders people. If anything this God sounds actually more weak to me. Because he is a man of many flaws, in a sense very human flaws. We create problems we don't know the asnwer for. We all very powerful but cannot over power our problems. and if you ask me he has many major flaws. Just as much or even more than any regular person. And worst ot is that he created all being eternal. he should be able to over come any obstacle, knowing how to perform all and creating the oppertunities for it. He should know how everything works, breaks and fixes. If humans can create oppertunity, why not god? we are smaller then him, or are we? Is God even a he? what if its a she, or some animal or an object?

my favorite qoute from bruce lee
"Fuc# circumstances, I create oppertunity"

Scientifically- there is a god because there are things that simply can't be answered with scientific methods. The meaning of life, why are we here- so on and so forth. Philosophically- there would be a reason to live to go on if there is nothing superior to ourselve- something that we can strive for, something that can give us a sense of purppse and meaning.

I don't beleive in religion. However I do beleive in the idea of God. I don't know nessarily how it works- But I most certainly beleive in the idea of something better that what we are.

well if you think scientifically, then everything has a beginning. if that is true, then the universe had a beginning, and that means there was something before the universe. and whatever that is, then it had a beginning too. if you keep going like that, then you logically end up with the fact that the past goes on for eternity. eternity and infinity are both terms that cannot be explained or proven scientifically, but both are concepts that relate to God.

If there is a god, we cannot possibly hope to understand it. Any god is completely outside of our experience and understanding. As was earlier alluded to, we cannot even define the concept "god," to do so is meaningless. Who can argue for or against a meaningless concept.

P.S. How the crap do you know this universe is improbable? The universe generating machine cranks these out every millisecond.

P.P.S. How ignorant do you have to be to say, "Read the bible to understand god." There are OTHER RELIGIONS TOO. Thank you.

There is a God. He rules over our world and our lives. He created and sustains the world and us as His creation. Evidence of His creative power is obvious to the eye as we view the world. The chances of creation falling into being as it is, orderly and timely, happening by random selection and chance is mathematically very, very small. This leads us to believe that the Intelligent Design concept must be regarded strongly. Evidence of answered prayer also leads to the conclusion of an active God. Evidence that the skeptic raises of prayers "unanswered" are examples of prayer coming from wrong assumptions and motives. When prayer is based on the assumption that God is the cosmic Santa Claus, the motive is selfish. Selfishness would be contrary to the intent of the Creator. It is reasonable to assume that a God who created us would expect us to be responsive to Him.

scientifically everything made is made by a person. such as your watch someone assembled that to make it work. Similarly this whole material world was also made by someone. The Supreme Person. Namely God also known as Krishna, Allah,Jehovah,Vishnu, etc. According to the ancient Vedic Wisdom which is the science of God and all material and spiritual worlds. God is the Supreme Person and we are all part and parcel of Him. WE are not these material bodies, IE race, color, nationality, religion, job, mind, intellect, gender, senses, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls. We never die, only this material body dies. This world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery. Only one fourth of the souls come here, (the less intelligent ones, (That's us)) The rest are enjoying eternall blissful, loving, relationships, with our maker in the eterna world where their is no birth, death, old age or disease or suffering. We all just enjoy there. But He makes this world so we can have a choice. Their is no love unless their is a choice to do so. So we come her to try to mimic God(being little creators) but we never become satisfied in that position, because we always fall short. For more info on this Ancient science of God go to harekrishnatemple.com read BHagavad Gita as it is. asitis.com you can read on line. also read srimadbhagavatam.org/... online. Vast science and wisdom, it will blow your mind.

Yeah, there's a God.

Evolutions teaches that higher life forms can arise from lower ones.

So, something like God should arise eventually, if it hasn't already.

Of course that doesn't mean Mr. Cosmic Superbrain gives a rat's butt about the hairless apes of Sol 3.

We all need to believe, or led to believe that there is hope after death, and that all our experiences will never end if there is life after death. The concept of God, like time, only exists when there is man. Take out man in the equation, still is the question: Is there a God?
