What fictional characters (from books, TV shows, movies, or anything else) either scared or really bothered you when you were a kid? There's one that sticks out in my mind: Mr. R from The Letter People! If anyone doesn't know/remember who he was, he was a really mean guy who was famous for shooting rubber bands at everyone; he even had a song (which had quite the wild, scary-sounding fiddle music), and here's part of it: "I rip them near and far, rip-roaring Mr. R! Roof, roof, beware of my ripping rubber bands!" What characters scared or induced hatred in you as a kid?

Dracula. I was four or five and my two brothers (ages 12 & 13) were supposed to be taking me to see a Disney movie. I was almost hysterical during parts of the movie, which my brothers thought was pretty funny. As a result, I had nightmares, had to sleep with a night light on, checked under my bed & in the closet several times during the night & tried to take various weapons (such as a hammer, for instance & once a knife, which got me into a lot of trouble from my mother!) to bed with me. To this day, I will not watch a vampire movie!

I loved the Letter People! Funny that I don't remember Mr. R being mean. I do remember Mr. M with the Munchy Mouth, and Mr. T with the Tall Teeth (they were VERY tall!) -- kinda creepy, but not scary.
Anyway, the thing that scared me the most was this little piece of paper tacked up above my Grandpa's workbench in his basement. It was really old, and from what I recall it was this freaky looking guy with a soooooper long tongue, all rolling around, and I think the eyes were all scary and stuff. Whenever I was sent to the basement to get something out of the root cellar, or had to walk by it for any other reason, I would cover my eyes (closing them wasn't good enough!) and rush past. LOL! Years later I asked my mom about it and she said, "Oh yeah, that was the Dangers of Drink" (or something like that). I guess it was kind of a religious picture or leftover from prohibition, to warn you against drinking alcohol. I don't know whatever happened to it. It wasn't there the last time I was in my grandparents' basement. I'm not sure I'd want to see it again, even if I could...it was horrifying!

The Wicked Witch of The West from The Wizard of Oz. She totally flipped me out when I was young. I think I was about 15 when I could watch the movie al the way through for the first time. Now I am a horror movie fan! Weird huh?

If you mean cartoon or animated people: Bart Simpson BQ: either Bender from Futurama, Spongebob, Goku form Dragonballz, Jade from Jackie Chan Adventures, Tommy Chong from Cheech and Chong or Tommy Vercetti from GTA Vice City. Real fictional people: Harold and Kumar

When I was 12, I stayed the night at my grandma's house. She had a book in the room I was sleeping in called "Strange Stories and Amazing Facts." I flipped through it and started reading about Nostradamus. FREAKED ME OUT!!!!!!
Now, obviously, Nostradamus is not fictional, but I believe his prophecies are. So I bent the rules a little and included my story.
Good question!

The flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz, and also the Wicked Witch. I would not get to sleep on nights we watched that movie or read the book.
Peace.
