It's actually only 7, because after the first 6 jumps he's 12 feet from the bottom (2 net ft. per jump, right?). So on the 7th jump he jumps 3 feet, getting to the 15ft mark and getting out of the hole, so he doesn't fall back a foot on the last jump.

he's never going to get out of the hole. the hole is 14 1/2 feet deep, the first jump puts him up 3 feet off the floor of the hole, that's still 11 1/2 feet from the top. the next jump he slips down a foot and he can only jump to 121/2 feet from the top.

that little frog is doomed

The first jump landed him 11½ feet from the top. He slid back to 12½ feet. The second jump brought him to 9½ feet. He slid back to 10½ feet. The third jump, to 7½ feet. Each jump lands him two feet closer to his goal.

Continuing the series:

jump 3 ... 7½ feet
jump 4 ... 5½ feet
jump 5 ... 3½ feet
jump 6 ... 1½ feet
jump 7 ... out!!
