The Saud royal family walks a tightrope between the necessity of keeping the support of the wahhabi clerics to stay in control of their country and the necessity of selling oil to the west for money.
Osama bin Laden first sought to overthrow the Sauds, was caught, jailed and exiled, before he wound up in Afghanistan. His grudge against the US is that OUR money keeps the Sauds in power over the holy sites of Saudi Arabia that he wants to put under an Islamic Caliphate.
Slim help is better than none.
