not much difference really, some may say a group is prepared by a producer, and a band prepares itself, but the beatles were a band in those terms they wrote there own music and preformed with instruments , very talented, not that the backstreet boys aren't but you can see the comparison.

The Beatles started out as a group hired and promoted by a producer. As they worked together, learning to actually play the instruments they merely carried earlier, (except for Harrison) their sound evolved and became their own. In their final days they were a band, but doomed to self destruction because they did not share a common vision.

A group just sings and a band has the singer, guitarists, drummer and any other players. That's kind of odd though that they called them a group because Ringo was the drummer and Paul, George and John played guitar.

In a band, most of the members play instruments, in a group, maybe one out of all them do. Maybe they all sing to music and not play instruments.

I think a band actually plays the instruments.
A group is a bunch of singers. (Or would it be a herd of singers? hmmm.... lol)
