It's a terrible idea. First of all, do you really think that some guy from Tampa Bay who is 20 games out of first place and who's only there because of a silly rule requiring each team be represented cares about home field advantage. If you want it the fact that it is for home field to mean anything, I would suggest that they take a page from the NBA and have the managers of the teams with the best record in each league manage for their league. Have the other 2 division leading managers and the wild card leading manager serve as coaches, and allow them to pick the rosters without having to have one player from each team on it. That way you would have players on each side that actually might care about home field for the Series.
The basic thing they need to do is make up their minds. Is it an exhibition game just for the fans, or does it really mean something? They need to stop trying to have it both ways.

I once liked the idea, But I no longer do. Home Field should go to the team with the best record at the end of the year. If the two teams are tied then you can use the all star game as the tie breaker.

absolutely not...it's true that the all-star game is an exhibition, and half the players (or less) have an interest in the outcome of the game, as their teams could be out of the race before the all-star game is even played...how about baseball moves the game to the end of the year (where voting can be gauged on a full season performance rather than a half season) and rotate in international settings such as japan, the dominican republic, puerto rico, mexico, canda, etc...)

No. It should go to the team with the best record in baseball or to the team with the best interleague record. The All-Star game is a joke to these guys even if home field is on the line.

i think it is a terrible idea. the allstar game is a joke, it is for show, there are no real roster numbers, and anything goes. this year it was somewhat exciting, granted, but there is no way the AL should get home field advantage for it. the team with the best average should definitely get home ad. without a moment of hesitation. you might as well make the home run derby count for something too.....

NO.
The all star game is a exhibition game, and was once used as bragging rights for which league was better.
I'd love to see it go back to the old ways where odd years The AL hosted it, and even years the NL hosted it.

It's a bad idea. The rule used to be that the team winning the league pennant in their league with the highest won-loss percentage in regular season play got the four games in their park. That meant the Series also started in that team's park. But, that was in an era when the National League champ met the American League champ head-on, without all of the "round robin" and wild card nonsense.
In an era of free agency there is no real team loyalty for players, unless they came up via that team's farm system like Atlanta and Minnesota. Even less is any loyalty or fealty they hold for the league in which their current team is playing. Every major leader in business is said to have a fetish of one sort or another. With Bud Selig it seems to be interleague play. He really wants to blur the lines, but maintain that line when it comes to post-season and the World Series.
Winding up the regular season with the best won-loss record is a real incentive, because you get to open the World Series in your ball park. Selig's little twist wipes out that incentive.

its not a bad idea, but not exactly a good idea. i like it though because at least some of the players will put a little effort into it. All-Star games are always so boring because nobody tries.

Terrible Idea. Because when you think about it only half of the people in the game would even care anyway.
