Well, you don't have to wear a dress but you should probably just wear a dressy top and a nice skirt or pants. I would stay away from denim since you'll look ridiculous in a room full of formally dressed people. You don't have to wear heels or anything but a cute halter and nice skirt should do. Just make sure your outfit says that you want to look nice but doesn't want to overdo it with a dress. Have fun at the party :)

If everyone else is in dresses, and you are in a denim mini skirt, you will look pathetically underdressed. That would be cute, but if people are wearing dresses, I would go with the flow. You would probably stand out. Just wear a dress and flats. They are comfy and cute!

1] wear a cute retro sundress, like:
print satin halter at Wet Seal.
bisou flyaway print dress [ jcpenney, junior dresses ]
2] add some cute flats, maybe hoops and bangles - simple!
3] jeans and a 'floaty' tunic top
*The part we didn't get is the part where you DID NOT say 'I don't wear dresses' ,you DID say ' I hate dresses'; which is not the same thing.
Don't be rude to people who are trying to help you.

i say wear what you want to!
if you don't feel like dressing up, wear something casual and be comfortable..
makes it alot easier if your friends feel the same way.
(it's middle school, don't blend in too much)
