my neighbor told me that she heard there is suppose to be a hurricane that hits new england and whips out the outer banks.. does anyone have any information on this or can tell me if its true or not.

Perhaps she was referring to Tropical Storm Chantal, which just passed offshore of New England and is now headed for Newfoundland. It's nothing to worry about now.

That is a "what-if" scenario that has been featured on channels like Discovery and The Weather Channel. They did one about New York too. It's just to raise awareness that those places are not safe from hurricanes just because they are further north, and also to raise awareness of the idea that global warming may make them more vulnerable than they have been in the past.
