Stop with the "both sides do it" argument. If you haven't guessed...I'm a Conservative. I've been arguing with Liberals on sites like this for years. I can count on 1 hand the number of them that actually argued the point without name calling. I still think that they do it because the facts are more often than not NOT on there side.

lib·er·al
1. favorable to progress or reform, as in political or religious affairs.
2. (often initial capital letter) noting or pertaining to a political party advocating measures of progressive political reform.
3. of, pertaining to, based on, or advocating liberalism.
4. favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.
5. favoring or permitting freedom of action, esp. with respect to matters of personal belief or expression: a liberal policy toward dissident artists and writers.
6. of or pertaining to representational forms of government rather than aristocracies and monarchies.
7. free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant: a liberal attitude toward foreigners.

Thats only half the definition. Calling Liberals Liberals is not derogatory...Get over it...

Also, nice shot hitladywhoever...proving my point for me....I didn't even have to ask a quesition.

because logic trumps "feelings". when they finally get what we are saying (and know they are wrong), that's when they start the name calling.

now if you engage in name calling, and give them a taste of their on medicine, it's "the politics of personal destruction" and below the belt.

sad isn't it?

Plenty of conservatives do this all the time. Liberals are often subjected to being called traitors, cowards, even brain damaged by conservatives short on facts and debating skills. Some liberals do as well. It is not restricted to one side or the other.
In fact by generalising like this are you not guilty of exactly the same thing (ok not calling a name - but name calling is only designed to cast a wide, usually inaccurate stereotype - exactly what you are doing here).
You give me a topic and I will debate it any time.

why does O'reilly have to name those who are against his ideas "liberals". It creates an extremist view of "it's you're with me or against me."
Now, you're either with him, or you're a "left wing." It's become such a popular term, you can't go through watching fox news for an hour without that word being used a dozen times. Watch ANY reputable news and see if the word "Liberal" is used as loosly (if at all) as O'reilly, hannity, and the rest of the Fox team spews it. That's how you know if the news is really "fair and balance"

Because facts, as you state, are not facts there opinions posed as facts.
Everything that is said in an arguement or debate is said with the intention of winning, and therefore some liberties such as actual fact are sometimes twisted!!!
Conservatives are just as easily to blame for name calling as liberals.
The bigger problem is people such as yourself that believe, whole heartedly, that your opinion is THE ONLY OPINION!!!

P.S.
Add up the responses where Conservatives revert to name calling in this thread.
Get those facts straight!!!!

It is easy to revert to politics when one side has a winning argument. But this issue goes both ways.

Have you ever noticed that's the tactic used on the Sunday morning talk shows...they might not actually call a conservative a name but something is always implied.

I guess if the leaders of the Dem party are doing it, and the DNC endorses it. Why not? Why let facts get in the way?

Have you every wondered why some liberals take offense at being called liberal or left wing? I would think they would be proud.

Name calling is a great way to shut down a conversation.

Both sides are guilty of it.

Same reason many conservatives --

People occasionally lose their temper.

And some people (on both sides) never even bother to try to be respectful of the other.
