for me, it has to be in Godfather III ( I know the movie is not that good) when Sophia Coppola character dies. Al Pacino acting through that scene, especially when it is mute, brings tears to my eyes everytime I see it. BRILLIANT acting!

#1 would be Oskar Schindler at the end of Schindler's List, mourning the people he did not manage to save.

#2 would be the important scene right toward the end of Million Dollar Baby, the one with Clint Eastwood and Hilary Swank.

Even though it is an animation flick one of the best cry scenes not only from me, but friends who have also seen it, is when Kenshin dies at the end of "Samurai X: Reflections". He is really one of the most realistic anime characters out there made out to be a hero. All the physical, mental, and emotional conflicts he has to go through. Then at the end his illness caused him to have amnesia, trouble moving around, and soon after finding his wife again he dies resting on her lap. His old scar from his past love, the symbol of his pain and the reasons he continued living, had faded off his face. Signifying that the only way his pain ended was with the end of his life.

If youve watched I Am Sam, then it would be the scene when kim basinger ( i think) was having an emotional argument with sean pen. In that movie sean was mentally challenged and yet still struggled to keep his daughter (dakota fanning) with him. I think that was what the whole argument was about, and im not really sure I remember it right but the whole movie was heart breaking and yet it had a happy ending.
I mean a mentally challenged father trying to do all he can to keep his daughter against all odds, that's gotta get anyone feeling for him.

In Imitation of Life (1959) there are 2 heartbreaking scenes, when Annie is on her deathbed describing how she wants her funeral.
And then at the end when Sarah Jane comes to the funeral and starts crying out "mama, i'm sorry!"

Also the last scenes in Ghost when Patrick Swayze is saying goodbye to Demi Moore and Unchained Melody is playing in the background..

I don't really cry too much at movies anymore and I'm not just saying this answer 'cos I'm a Harry Potter fan, but the scene with Cedric's dad crying over his dead body is heartbreaking.
I wasn't a big fan of Cedric (I didn't hate him either but he was just one of those character's that were just there to me) but it was his dad's heartache and crying over his body that makes me tear up everytime :-)

When I was younger I used to be heartbroken at the end of Drop dead Fred - when he tells her she has to go back herself.
I always wanted an imaginary friend like that and I didn't want her to leave him, I wanted her to keep him :-) But clearly her character had moved on and could cope without her imaginary friend whereas I couldn't! *lol* I longed for an imaginary friend like that :-)

The last scene in The House of Mirth. I have seen that movie 100 times and it still makes me cry. That scene kills me. That and the scene before it, when she says " let us be friends, that way I will feel safe, no matter what happens". They love each other so much and just can't be together.

The most heartbreaking scene for me was in The Bridge to Terabithia when the little girl dies and the little boy asks his father if God is going to send her to Hell.

Titanic makes me cry every time as well.

I would have to say that there's two movies that do it for me they are older movies. the first is Untamed Heart at the end they both finally find people who accept them and love them for who they are and he dies when he's his happiest.

The second is the movie Powder when the guy kills the deer and Powder guy makes him feel the deers pain and fear. Actually the whole movie breaks my heart. Cheesey yes but both made me look like an *** when I walked out of the theater crying like a baby. lol.
