Both of my ferrets were acquired at the age of 2 weeks, and hadn't opened their eyes when they joined the family. Personally, I thought this a bit young, but the breeders I obtained them both times from insisted that this was not the case.

Yes 5 weeks is too young to take a ferret kit away from it's momma and try to feed it and keep it as healthy as it can be. There are always places selling or adopting out ferrets (unless you're in California or in NYC where they are illegal anyway) that are at a much better age to be weaned and ready to go home.

i grew to become into constantly informed an analogous 2 methods, first one is to forget approximately nipping, dont even pay it any interest and as quickly as the domestic dog realizes its no longer getting an develop out of you they frequently end. the different approach (the only we used because of the fact our kits have been very youthful) is a speedy pinch to the ear or yelling oww loud adequate a speedy adequate to startle the domestic dog. i comprehend its adverse reinforcement which isnt meant to artwork the final, yet I in straight forward terms raised 2 and it labored splendidly for the two considered one of them. while you're making it appear as if a interest they're going to constantly nip, that could grow to be all out bitting.

They should really be 7-8 weeks old before leaving mom.
