Trust me; nothing owed to the government,
collected by the government goes away.
Especially, if you are in errors (arrears).

I assume you mean arrears - if the child turns 18 and you still owe some back child support, then you still owe it. In most states you still owe it to whomever was receiving it, in a few places it might be owed to the child. You don't owe it to the government, although they might be the one who collects it for the person you DO owe it to, unless it's paying back welfare payments that were made because you didn't pay the child support.

Do you mean arrears -- behind on your child support payments?

When the child turns 18, the arrearages will continue to be deducted and forwarded to the same place as before the child turned 18, normally, the custodial parent or guardian.

I assume you mean 'in arrears' on the payments. No, this does not go away after the child turns 18. In most cases, unpaid child support requires that a government agency provide funds to assist in the child's support. Those responsible for child support payments are expected to make them sooner or later. They do NOT go away.
