It will be disadvantageous in today's society, because:
The World is at enmity with God. Anyone who loves the world hates God, and vice versa.
So, it doesn't really matter if it's not advantageous in today's society, because we are living for eternity, not for the moment, which will pass away. What benefit is it, to gain the whole world, and lose your soul?

North American society is based on values similar to what Christ taught, namely tolerance, equality, non-violence and charity. Christ-like people here and now are generally very highly respected by others, which is always an advantage. It's probably a disadvantage if you live in the ghetto and crackheads always try to take advantage of your non-violence to steal your money for their crack or something, but in society on average I'd say it would be beneficial.

Kindness and love can be beneficial in relationships that are personal or business-oriented. Today's society, however, is very Me-oriented. In that light, Christlikeness can be viewed with disdain. Ultimately, one must choose to live for self or to live for God. The benefit of being Christ-like is primarily eternal. Are you planning for your eternal destiny?

If you are going by the world's standards, then the world will hate you and ridicule you. You may think that you have it easy, but that means that you aren't doing enough. It'll be beneficial in that you will change the world for the better, and your inner character will be more at peace, but in this world it MOST LIKELY will not be advantageous, as those who are willing to succeed using any means possible will usually succeed.

The Will is positive, the Judgment is negative. A universal does not make its self so if it is not so and as such is particular and peculiar. Should a particular peculiar become its self universal or be its self?
