IT doesn't seem to mean much anymore. I really don't know why people include it in their ceremony. In my religion, Wicca, we do a Hand fasting which includes in the vows, a promise that is similar to "Till death do us part" but goes "Help us cleave together throughout this life and beyond" or something similar. But we also have a Handparting ritual when the marriage doesn't work out because Wiccans believe that if love dies in a relationship then no good purpose is served by chaining them together until they hate each other. So a Handparting is done in hopefully love and respect, letting each person go on to maybe find love somewhere else. No where is cheating condoned or are third parties to be involved. It is just simple acceptance of reality and what can happen between two people. I find it a sad ritual and hope that I never have to be a part of one whether as a participant or as a witness.

I don't know what "wemen" are, but few people are worried about breaking the vow if it comes down to a parting of ways...
...and apparently it doesn't bother too many dudes, or they wouldn't be saying "I do" now, would they?
Instead of 'til death, the vows should read "as long as it is good and right for both".

No, but whats the whole point of getting married if you know you cant do the "till death do us part" bit. If the man loves the woman very much, the "till death do us part" shouldnt bother him at all, and if it does then hes just not ready to be fully comitted to her.

It is impossible to take marriage vows too seriously. Anything with the word "death" is by definition, serious. The trouble comes in when people don't take vows seriously enough. A bit of sobering advice for you: . Don't take any marriage vows with that attitude - spare yourself and your prospective bride a lot of heartache and move on.

Well, it must make alot of men happy because there are alot of marriages out there. But really, Flavio, you need a woman. You have way too much time on your hands sitting around on the beach all day long. Do you have a job?

If you don't believe in "till death do us part" then don't say that part when you take vows to get married. A vow is a vow. It's a commitment.

I think women take it more seriously then men... but both parties should firmly believe it's forever or don't get married. It's as simple as that.
Probably 99.99% of all marriages begin that way.

Doesn't the "dude" say it too. I don't want to think about me or my husband dying, but its a fact of life.
PS Real women don't marry dudes...they marry men.

Maybe you don't take it serious enough. It is made to scare off people who are just out to get a little. I hope more women choose to see it as the real oath that they are truly taking. It is legally binding. That is why it is illegal to cheat on your spouse.
