Yes it's shameful. They say it takes a "family" to rise a child, yet they've sent both parents of a newborn BABY off to fight in Iraq at the same time!!!! Luckily that "village" was still there to help care for the baby!!!

Leave Your Children Behind, You Are Both Going to Iraq
Sam Hamod
In a most immoral way, the American government is now requiring both parents of young children to be deployed to Iraq. This is an ominous turn in our country’s history.
It means that politicians and their wars are more important than the health of the nation and the psychological well being of future generations.
Juxtapose this with the failed and failing “No Child Left Behind” bogus program and one can see that children and parents are being misled and abused in abnormal and deceptive ways.
Last night, I watched as the reserves from Sheldon, Iowa were trundled off to their deaths as truck-drivers in Iraq. The young man, a Mr. Crockett and his wife, are in the same unit and are being shipped off together. In his innocence, he said, “I’ll go over there, serve my time and the come home and things will be back again like normal.” But later, when he and his wife were departing the depot in Sheldon, he and his wife were both crying.
I fear that he and possibly his wife will never get back home to Sheldon because the roadside bombings are going to intensify, not only with bombs but with RPGs and with new rockets that will filter into the country and others that will be stolen or bought from the U.S. One must never forget what I saw in Korea where some of our aviation fuel was shipped up to North Korea in order to fuel the communist jets; the same will happen in Iraq because of greedy officers or others. These men are like looters who come in after a disaster and prey upon their fellow citizens for profit at any cost.
So it is that our American youth, and even grandfathers are being called up, not to defend our country as it says in their contracts, but to fight a colonial war in Iraq and Afghanistan."

Child abuse and neglect is shameful and those who do this are shameful.
I cannot agree with anything else, sorry. Part of being a Conservative means we take personal responsibility for our own families. At least to this Conservative.

I thought it "took a village". For 8 years a Democratic administration avoided the child abuse that took place daily in Iraq and concentrated on interns. That should shame you.
A conservative like you should know that our military is made up of volunteers...no one is forced into service.
A conservative like you should also research backup data to the study mentioned. I'd like to know how exactly "child neglect" is defined, and what the national percentages of "physical child abuse" are compared to that of the deployed.
And as we bicker about an "unnecessary" war in Iraq, Obama suggests he would send the military into Pakistan, without an invitation. Now that should really shame a conservative like you.

I'm a retired soldier with a son serving in Iraq. What does martial status have to do with the issue? If you're so concerned, why don't you lobby Congress to outlaw married personnel serving in the military? I never cease to be amazed at the leaps of logic that come from the pie holes of liberals. When I signed up, I committed to defend the Constitution of the United States and that means defending your right to be an ....

I am not. this is an all volunteer army. they joined for the benefits and out of the love for their country. they should have been well aware that the services that they signed up for would need to be fulfilled. if it's too tough on them or their families they can always choose a dishonorable discharge. I can't cry over where I am when I chose to take the journey. I can turn around and go back to where I came from.

When you sign that dotted line and join the military, you agree that your life may be forfeit for your country. Right or wrong war, you make the sacrifice. "Some gave all". I'm concerned about everyone called on to serve in that hell. Let the administration ask itself if that killing field in Iraq, the blood of the innocents, the maiming of the survivors and the post traumatic stress is worth the life of one man--Sadaam Hussein. This was "Bush's war", plain and simple. He drummed it up, he hyped it up, he served it to those who would eat and forced the rest of us to eat it. He's going to go back to Crawford when it's all over and have a beautiful, rich life.

No. The war was necessary, and those men and women volunteered to stand for their nation. As a veteran and a citizen of this excellent nation I thank them fully and whole heartedly for their service and patriotism.
This nation was built by men and women like them who displayed great patriotism. I am proud of our President and of the men and women who serve in the Armed Forces, regardless of any bogus study you may use to discredit a President who did what needed to be done.

Unnecessary? So - the repeated violations of the cease fire agreements and treaties that Iraq signed with us are useless? We already know the 17 UN resolutions were a joke - are treaties and cease-fires jokes, too?
And child abuse is NEVER acceptable. Not in war, not in peace.
As to the length of the tours...when my great-uncles were fighting WWII, they didn't get to come home for YEARS. And they sure as hell didn't have access to computers, telephones, etc.
