In 1990, the NFL introduced a bye-week to the schedule. Each team would play sixteen regular season games over seventeen weeks. One week during the season, on a rotating basis, each team would have the weekend off. As a result, opening weekend was moved up to Labor Day weekend. In 1993, the league adjusted the schedule to include two bye weeks per team, and the sixteen games were played over eighteen weeks. In 1994, the schedule was changed back to seventeen weeks. They did so that each team had a breakand a chance to rest up a bit.

Simply as a break.....also, since the injuries are just as severe in the NFL, but there are less games, its to give injured players an extra week to recover. Or at least thats what some teams do......since the NFL doesn't have an all star game, its like their all star weekend. A week.

Good Question I would really like to know. But not to many people is going to answer this question because...its a real question. Most of the people in here treat yahoo answers as a chat room or a blog. They always ask the same and same question over and over. Vick this Vick that,... look at me I'm doing the same thing.
