Believe it or not, the less freon you have the colder the air is. That is why if you are low on freon your coil freezes. If it is blowing cool instead of cold I would say there is a good chance you are over charged on freon. If you've had someone work on your unit recently i'd call them because they put in too much freon.

Check the condenser coils to make sure they are clean. You can use a garden hose to wash the coil off.

Check to see if the fan on the outside unit is running.

If these things check out you will need to call an HVAC tech. You metering device may not be working properly or your refrigerant charge may not be right.

It is also possible that the evaporator coil has iced up. Set the unit to the fan only position. After an hour turn it back to cool and see if the air is cooler. If it is then the coil is likely icing.

Other than the solutions listed, How long has the unit been on? If for e few hours the air should be cold. If you just turned it on the air coming out will feel warmer till the room air actually cools off.

Properly setup and working unit should give you a temperature of 20 degrees F cooler coming out of your vent than the air that is going into the unit. Neither too high or too low indicates problem.

Other than making sure your filter is clean, there is nothing a non-pro can do to fix your problem. My guess is either low on freon (you need a license to purchase and work on it) or you need your unit on inside and outside cleaned. But again, you won't be able to do this as it requires dis-assembly.

If you don't already have a good a/c person, talk to some of your neighbors and see if any of them can recommend you a good one.

Measure the temperature difference between what is coming out at a register what is going into the return register with a thermometer. if it is between 17-23 degrees then it is working fine.
