I would have to say that occultism is pseudo-science non-sense. Things like magic, extra-sensory perception, astrology, numerology, lucid dreaming, etc have somewhat scientific links, but have been polluted by "mystical beliefs." In my opionion "belief" in the supernatural is a common theme in non-sense. And while there have been attempts to scientifically explore the many areas of occultism, none have found results conclusive enough, or repeatable, to prove as being valid, or real.
Think about this for a moment- if occultism practices and beliefs were tried and true techniques, wouldn't they be mainstream? If faith healing works, why don't we see it applied in hospitals on a regular basis? If lucid dreaming REALLY worked, wouldn't it be regulated, taught in schools, and have liscened practicioners? Instead we see them covered in veils of secrecy of "which not everyone can understand." Only those who have the gift, or truly believe, can recieve the full benefits offered by whatever occult practice you wish to think of. It is in this way that occultism is linked with mysticism and religion. Some truth muddled by mysticism. So be careful of what you read on, as many occultist websites and books play to these beliefs. A healthy dose of skeptisim can go a long way, as can questioning and researching (from legitimate sources- ".gov", ".edu").

There is truth even in the obviously false statement or proposition, even if intentionally false. Occultism, if I have the same understanding for the meaning as you, is simply an other religion.

Certain things such as astral travel are undoubtedly true though whether they take place in the mind or outside it or some combination of both is a moot point. Ritual magic can have an effect on the mind. You really should read a few of the many books available. One I can recommend is "Astral Projection" by Opheil. He said in there that anyone who experimented as laid out in the book would have major life changes and I did as he suggested and sure enough the changes came about.
