YOU GET IT BY LEAVING AN OLD ANIMAL THERE. To get rid of the smell buy a big bottle of Vanilla extract. Set small bowls around the basement and pour some in them. change it every two or three days. Will probably take a couple of weeks. Worked in a fridge that lost power and set for several weeks with a full load of meat and veggies so should work there too.

Hahahaha....you're asking how to get the smell out? Have you scrubbed the entire basement down? If you haven't then you should try using some bleach and other cleaners.

You need to soak the ceiling, too, with bleach or fabreeze. Being a basement, is it exposed joists? The exposed wood will soak and hold those odors for years. So would any untreated drywall, carpet, some insulations, anything porous. Good luck...

Heh. Gross.
Get a Kirby or Rainbow demonstration in your basement. Don't buy the vacuum, but just let them do the cleaning. The Kirby people do the whole room. Their vacuum sucks though.
All I got.

LMSIAO I only get a smell if I haven't buried them deep enough or I haven't used enough Lime and the only way to get rid of it is Disinfectant and then Paint quickly before the neighbours call the cops and they start digging.

Mmm.. might have to call a cleaning crew if it's that bad. Replace anything down there that can absorb and hold smells.
