I live in Minnesota, in a town right outside the twin cities. You and everyone else knows they've been doing construction work on that bridge for most of the summer. (Here in Minnesota there are 2 seasons: winter, and road construction.) But why on earth would terrorists target a bridge in Minneapolis? More important, HOW? Explosives would have blown up a section or the green metal support beams, and both are crumbled, but basically intact. This story is not even 12 hours old, though I'm glad people are interested, most of the answers you get are completly wrong, and it's innapropriate for you to be asking. It's innapropriate for you to ask because lots of emotions are criss-crossing right now, everywhere, not just Minneapolis. Those who feel we shouldn't just guess where terrorists are, and need facts to back up a story before they rule in favor of it, hate that people are automatically assuming this has to do with terrorists. Those who strongly believe that we have been targeted once more, (whom I believe are very narrow-minded people) and want to get to the bottom of this, quickly and assertivly rule in favor of this story having to do with terrorism.

Right now, most citizens want to tune into the news, and wait for morning updates. No more questions, yours will be answered when everyone elses' are.

Doubt it... I live about 10 minutes away from that bridge.. They've had construction on it for a while now.. It's been down to one lane. If terrorists wanted to blow up a bridge, they have plenty of other options here that are six or even eight lanes.. During rush hour, there'd be a lot more casualties..

There's no reason for them to attack the bridge. Terrorists want to get the biggest bang for the smallest buck so I believe they'd destroy something that the American public was a little more passionate about, or a place that had the most people i.e. the Statue of Liberty or San Francisco.

No, "The bridge carrying Route 35W , which was under repair, buckled and fell into the river." Doesn't look ike terrorism to me.

That was my first guess, considering it looked like there was an explosion, but they confirmed that that happened after it collapsed. I still think it is, considering freeway bridges don't just collapse, but until it's proved, there's no real way to tell.

Ok...Adding on to this, I didn't pay attention to the news for more than five minutes. Apparently there was construction going on, so it was probably that... They should've limited the access to the bridge if they were going to be working on something so old...

Nope, the Bridge was under construction and evidently there was weakness, from being taken apart and new put in. Engineer's will find out !!!

Most likely the piling or pilings in the river were undermined and was not inspected properly when the inspection was due.
This type of collapse has happened in the past and was determined the pilings were undermined and the bottom visual inspection looked ok.

Given that it's about a hour old -- too soon to tell.

But all evidence indicates that it was either an accident caused by repair work that was underway on the roadway, or a standard structural failure caused by material fatigue.

If it is it wasn't a very good one because I didn't even know a bridge fell.

No, it was because of all the construction that they were doing there.

I KNEW that there would be people asking this! Gotta love that fear mongering...it has the sheep trained well! (no, that was not a slam at you either)
