I think that most people are fearful of being in the leadership role; they would much rather follow someone else than do their own thing. This keeps them from having to make hard decisions and also takes responsibility for their actions away from them (they can blame their "leader" for why they do the things they do).

Its called the lemming effect,
People feel more secure if everyone else is doing the same thing.
Eg. your in a hotel , in the middle of the night the fire alarm goes off.
What do you do? You jump out of bed and look out of the hotel door to see if anyone else is moving towards the fire escape .
If no one is moving you go will remain in your room.
It only takes one to have the initiative to move then everyone wants to move at the same time.
Humans are all mad

There are alot of people who are very insecrue and because of that they tend to just go with the flow and do anything that will make them blend in and not be notice, there are some people who don't do well under the spot light to they let everyone else do it for they. I guess it really all just comes down to their insecrueities.

Alot of people like to have someone to look up2!someone they can take orders ...because its the safe option.they dnt like to be at the front, seen by evryone but rather hidden, making an impact but not noticed by others.
Somepeople just dnt have leadership qualiites, a lack of confidence!! by following other people we are socialising creating subcultures, sometimes its just natural, just to feel part of the crowd

usually they see something in the person they follow that they like & would like to be like. many are scared or simple have been a sheep their whole life and don't know how to be independent. it's easier to be someone else than it is to be yourself i guess.

They don't have any confidence and stick to only the people they socialise with. They also regard themselves as lower than everyone else- even though everyone is equal.

Its the need to feel accepted in our social circle. So people feel that if they don't abide by their social norm, they will be seen as outsiders or deviant.
