Oh, yes! Captain Kangaroo's sidekick. Looked like a typical farmer.

I used to get up at 5 a.m. every morning when I was very young. We had an old black and white console TV that was probably equivalent to a 21 inch screen nowadays. I used to watch the Farm Report for an hour, until Captain Kangaroo came on at 6.

And I have to admit that this was a LOT earlier than the "early 70s" as your first answerer said.

Mr. Greenjeans, Capt. Kangaroo (also played Clarabell the Clown on Howdy Doody), Mr. Bunny, Dancing Bear and Grandfather Clock......yep, I remember them all.

I sure do remember him. I watched Capt. Kangaroo with my little brother in the mid fifties.
