NEW YORK CITY....is your friend! :D
1. Traffic
Don't worry about Traffic, because there's always a way around! The best thing about NYC is that you can virtually walk anywhere. Its one of the quintessential things about being a New Yorker, we walk! You don't even need your car here. Parking is expensive though, and traffic can get bad sometimes, but since there are less cars on the road then most cities, its not that bad compared to other places. I say, sell it and get some extra exercise ;D
2. Beauty (How beautiful the skyline is)
The skyline is world famous! New York is a historical and beautiful city. You get the full spectrum, from classical old buildings like the Woolworth Tower (the first skyscraper EVER!) and your more contemporary new buildings like all that fancy stuff downtown and in midtown. There's a certain charm to the older neighborhoods, like where I live, the Lower East Side, which has a rich and wonderful history. Visit these places to get a good idea of how historical and beautiful it is: City Hall, Lower East Side, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge...there's a lot more!
Edit: I just went on my morning walk(see, we walk!) and I was thinking about this question and I remembered the old federal era district neighborhood on the west side, its one of my favorite places, its like taking a trip back in time to the 1800's, the old, brick townhouses with ivy all over them and the winding criss-crossing streets are not only of wonderful historical value, but make for a great sight!
3. Public Transportation
There's the MTA subway and bus system, which is super convenient and goes anywhere. It can be hard to get used to at first, but once you got it, you got it!
4. Economy
I have to say that I don't know exactly what you mean by this, but come on, hah, Wall Street is here! :D Edit: Ah, if you mean getting a job, its super easy, and you can get some really odd and fun jobs too, there's always some new place thats opening and hiring! But the standards are high, and you're gonna need a resumé!
5. Cost of Living
Heres where it gets a little iffy. Manhattan can be pricey, no doubt, but Brooklyn is more affordable and Manhattan is still easily accessible from there! I'm not a fan of the other boroughs though >_>
6. Entertainment
Hah! Theres soooo many things to do here, literally, countless. Theres the famous 42nd street of course, and then all of the Museums like the Museum of Natural History, The MoMA, etc. And there's always a nice walk in the park ;D Its easy enough to find out about events and other fun things to do around town! Also, if you ever need music hook-ups, I've got family in the jazz industry ;D
Edit: I noticed you have kids! NYC is an amazing place as a kid, there are great zoos, parks and museums, they recently re-vamped the New York Hall Of Science which is a hands on science museum in Queens. Great place, I really enjoyed it as a kid.
7. Crime
The crime rate in NYC has gone down drastically. I've had the chance to watch my neighborhood grow from not-so-great and sketchy, to super hip and fun. Everyone is getting along these days over here, so drop on by!
Compare for yourself:
http://www.bestplaces.net/crime/?city1=53651000&city2=51714000
(You're right, it is lower)
8. Diversity
Chinatown, Harlem( and its NOT a scary place at all, it has a lot of culture) Little Italy, Little India, Greenwich Village (gay community) Lower East Side (artist community) just to name a few. There is almost no city on Earth that its as culturally diverse as New York, everywhere you look there's a new culture to explore.
9. Anything else
Anything else, well, I've grown up here, and I'm glad I did. Its a great place to live, its a fun place to be, and You're welcome here anytime! Join the party as they say ;D
The pollution isn't bad at all, trust me. And we have the best tap water anywhere, I can say that for sure! Its got fluoride in it to promote healthy teeth!
I would have mentioned the Hudson River Park somewhere in here, which is amazing, but its under construction and gonna be all new and even better!
Oh, and how can I forget, the Weather! Its Quite nice this summer, its stayed relatively cool, but you get the full spectrum of seasons here without missing a hitch. Winter is a true winter, Spring a true Spring.
And Hey, we're the capital of the Freakin' world.

I've never been to Chicago but I've heard from lots of people that it's a nice city. NYC has a lot of entertainment going on and there is always something to do. NYC seems like it would be a lot more busier than Chicago but transportation is always available. I believe cost of living is definitely more expensive in NYC. NYC has a lot of diversity...not sure about Chicago. The crime rate may be high in both cities but that's because they are big, major cities. But I'll tell you one thing...their crime rate is not as high as it is here in FL.
So I guess my pick would be Chicago. I don't think it would be as busy as NYC. But it's all up to you. I've been wanting to visit Chicago for some time now. I believe you have to visit both cities and see if you feel at home with either one. Good Luck!!!

Traffic: New York is the worse but New York has a great public transportation system, you dont need a car in NYC.
Beauty: NYC has the best skyline in the world and best in the US. I think Chicago has the 3rd best skyline in the country after Miami and NYC. NYC is a great city central park is great, buildings are great,
4. Economy: NYC is just about the most important city in the worlds economy. Lots of people lots of jobs in NYC, but a very expensive place to live, more expensive than Chicago but Chicago is expensive too and a very important financial centre also.
Cost of Living, New York is the most expensive city in the Untied States to live in. Chicago is in the top 5.
Entertainment: NYC has the best entertainment in the world!
Crime: both are large cities and have alot of crime. NYC is very safe in most parts, I never feel like I am in a non-safe area in NYC. Chicago has its really bad parts, Chicago is more dangerous.
Diversity: NYC is just about the most diverse city in the world.
Chicago has some diversity but nothing like NYC or other cities in the US like LA or Miami.
New York is a great city, expensive but great, better place than Chicago. Chicago is nice too, its a smaller version of NYC IMO. a nice place but a little bit to American for me.
NYC is my second favourite city after Miami.

2 Chicago better.
3 New York better.
4 Chicago better.
5 Chicago better.
6 New York better.
7 Probably close, New York`s sheer numbers might make stats higher.
8 New York better.
9 Weather.....New York a little better in winter, don`t know about summer. Also, I think population DENSITY is heavier in New York, more crowded.

Well...I'm a BIG Chicago girl, so that would be my vote overall, but...
1. Traffic in both places are probably about the same as in EVERY major city...BAD
2. Chicago is more beautiful in my opinion. NYC is a nice place, but there's so much smog and pollution, and it's really crowded, but i heard where they are rebuilding ground zero is going to be VERY nice.
3. Well...Chicago is the transportation capitol of the country. But you can't forget NYC's unlimited supply of taxis and subways, but don't ever try driving your OWN car there...
4. Economy, i really don't know...probably very similar
5. Cost of Living is VERY VERY high in NYC, in Chicago it depends on where you live...if you live on the south or west side then you can find a pretty accommodating cost of living, but if you live on the northside near downtown, it can get PRETTY expensive.
6. Entertainment, well...i hate to say it, but NYC wins this one hands down...i mean you can't beat BROADWAY. But, Chicago has some of the BEST concerts EVER!
7. Crime, well, they both are major cities so, you have to be careful WHEREVER you go. But Crime rate is higher in NYC.
8. Umm...this is a hard one, because while NYC is KNOWN for how diverse it is, Chicago's a pretty diverse city too, so that's a close one.
9. Anything else....well, CHI-TOWN ROCKS! But don't just take my opinion....see for yourself. :D Good Luck With Your Decision and Move!

If you're looking for the ultimate city experience, New York City all the way. Yes, it's expensive. Congested. Loud. Obnoxious. But it's still my favorite city on earth. Always something to do, no matter what mood you're in. Have fun, whatever you choose. In my mind, there's no choice. Since you're considering moving, I would definitely visit both cities if you haven't already. Every city has its own "feel". Some people despise NYC. To me, my heart will always be there.
