My wife and I are filling for divorce and we have called around to a couple of places and found that even with a mediator it's going to cost upwards of two thousand dollars and I was just wondering if anyone knows of a cheaper way to go about like if maybe health insurance would cover services or something. I'm filing in texas but living in north carolina

You actually CAN file for a divorce on your own. There are a few expenses, such as the filing fee. But you can typically find the forms you need at your courthouse's website and print them out yourself. If you and your wife can come to an agreement, then it's easier just to do it on your own without a lawyer. There may be a place in your area that will review your documents to make sure they are clear and concise and cannot be interpreted wrong.

Yeah you can do it yourself, however keep this addage in mind. "A person who acts as their own attourney has a fool for a lawyer and a much bigger fool for a client". You might want to just pay the money or risk being screwed.
