where the front sprocket is located ive taken the bolts and the gear shifter off and it is sticking is there a special tool i need to take it off? it comes up a little just wont come all the way off thanks for your help

The flywheel has to be removed before the cover can come off.
The "dowel pins" might be corroded to the cover and crankcase.
Pull the cover as far away as you can and inspect where the gasket surfaces are, to determine what's the problem.
And no, a special tool isn't needed to remove that cover.
There might be some tabs that stick out of the cover for you to hit with a punch (or screwdriver) and hammer.
Careful not to damage the gasket surface.
