unhook the springs, reattach the cables to the bottom of the door, get the door up and reattach the springs.

It's worse than just the head. The loose bolt means the timing gear will have been loose on the crankshaft for a while and the key way in the crank will be worn. The badge is to glue in a new key with epoxy but it's a fix and sell hodge (I know to my bitter cost!) So if you're using a mechanic it will cost a lot to diagnose the extent of the damage if you have the head off. Why not ask if the crank needs repair or replacement. That's a killer! I'd call round some scrapers and see if you can find a used engine but only if the rest of the car is really good.

Just rehook them back up and shorten the cable to keep them tight in the future. If you have a problem with this ask a neighbor for help or call a garage door repairman. Good luck.

These doors have high tension springs that are dangerous. Unless you know what you are doing, you should call a repair man that fixes garage doors.
