I am 17 weeks and 3 days pregnant. My doc scheduled a well-being and growth ultrasound which was today, and my doc said that i will find out the sex today as well. Well, the tech who did the ultrasoud says that the sex is 95% boy, she would not confirm 100%. we think we saw the "boy parts" four times, but again, not a 100 %. My question is, has anyone ever recieved a 100% before 20 weeks? or at an early ultrasound do you hear this percentage of accuracy, and if you were told that the tech was not 100 % sure, did they end up being right? i do not know if i will have another ultrasound, (my first pregnancy) and im just curious what anyone else has experienced in this situaltion. i am happy no matter what sex, i just wanna go buy baby stuff!!! lol :)

Ultrasound techs look at babies in the womb all day long. If she said it was 95% boy, you are having a boy.

They have to leave a little margin for error just so they don't get sued - congratulations, you are having a son!! Go buy blue to your heart's content.

Go buy the boy stuff cause girl you are having a boy. Most of the time they tell you that they cant be a 100% because..really they cant tell a 100% they are wrong all the time! The only way they can be 100 percent about the sex is with an amniocentisis. They told me at 14 weeks I was having twin boys...but they werent 100 percent. I went back every week (because i had a complicated pregnancy) and it was boys. Buy the boy stuff!!! Have fun shopping, that is my fav part!

First off - an ultrasound tech will NEVER guarntee 100% on the sex of the baby. Why? Because if they are wrong - well - you do the math.

17 weeks is still rather early. It's better to wait for 20+ weeks - a 3 week difference in growth is a lot.

I'd hold off on the baby stuff. Until you do another ultrasound. ij ust had a friend have her baby - which they were told 2 times that it was a boy - "he" came out a "she".

How did they calculate 95%? Was there a math formula they used? Hehe.

But first time the guy who was taking my doctor's place (she was on vacation) said, something like, "If I had to make a guess, it would be a girl. It looks like a girl" and that was at 20 weeks.

Then at 24 weeks my real doctor said that it was a girl.

And the last 2 times she never said otherwise...and I had 3D ultrasounds done 3 times.

So...I'm pretty positive I'm having a girl...she's the expert.

I agree, maybe not for the legal reasons, but that is an excellent point that they will almost never tell you with 100% accuracy, simply because when you look at the imaging, it is always possible there is some sort of anomaly to make them think it is a boy. I would go ahead and consider that you are having a boy. Heck, it's funny, now that I think about it, I myself am almost always unwilling to say anything with complete certainty (I am in healthcare...).
If you want to hedge your bets you can always buy green or yellow clothes ;)

With my 3rd pregnancy I had an ultrasound done at 17 weeks. She said she was pretty sure , but not positive, it was a girl. After 2 boys I had to be sure. I went and had a 3D us done. She was right , it was a girl. My neighbor had her us done at 20 weeks and both times she was supposed to have boys. She has 2 girls, I guess you never know! Good luck to you!

its probably a boy, but sometimes little girls will put their arm in the way and it can be mistaken as a penis...most times doctors will wait until at least 20 weeks to tell you the sex, because it will be a sure thing by then. By the way, I'm sure you'll get another ultrasound later on.

Sonogram can be misleading. If you really want to know the babys gender, have amnio. It is much more accurate. The sonogram was wrong in 3 out of me and my wifes 4 pregnancies.
