Good question, I like this one.
I remember the playground song called "Ring Around the Rosie". A bunch of kids would hold hands and walk in a cirlce and then fall down at the end of the song. The song goes like this:

Ring around the rosie,
A pocket full of posies.
Ashes, ashes.
We all fall down.

We would always sing that song and play the game until I found out its' possible meaning and its' describing outbreaks of bubonic plague in England.

Ring around the rosie - supposedly the first line evokes the round red rash that would break out on the skin of plague victims.

A pocket full of posies - would have been a pocket in the garment of a victim filled with something fragrant, such as flowers that aimed to conceal the smell from the sores and the dying people. Another possibility includes the idea that "posies" are derived from an Old English word for pus, in which case the pocket would be referring to the swelling sore.

And finally Ashes ashes we all fall down - Originally the folk rhyme went like this Ah-tishoo, ah-tishoo we all fall down which was a sneeze. Therefore sneezing was a final fatal symptom of the bubonic plague, and 'all fall down' was exactly what happened, they died.

Sooooooooo.... to answer your question, I would'nt teach my child that one, that's for sure. But nicer ones, yes I would.

I never heard that song as a child, and I'm not THAT old, either!
I never quite understood the correlation between not being liked and the insistance on going to eat worms.
Why not go eat a hot dog? Or a cheese sandwich? Why must it be worms?
Oh, the puzzlement....

I ate a worm once when I was about 3. I was given it by this big girl who was probably about 5. I reckon its the sole reason I've turned out like I have.

SO beware of worms I say

I never made a conscious decision not to teach them to my child because I never thought about it.

Anybody remember Miss Mary who had a steeple?
