Was it a bomb? an earthquake? terrorists? This is so horrible. I hope everyone we know is ok. Are there any P&Sers from Minneapolis??

I live about 5 miles from it.

It wasn;t a bomb, earthquake or terrorists. We have had construction being done since the beginning of the summer. Than today during the 6 oclock rush hour, the bridge collapsed from both ends.

I have been watching the news and have heard that its at least 50 cars, 20-30 people, and a school bus full of about 60 kids. In adition to that, it collapsed over two major roads, so cars may be stuck underneath, as well as in the mississippi.

My family is okay, but we aren't sure about everyone we know. Its a direct route to downtown, so there are many, many people that I know that cross it daily. I am still kind of in shock.

But from what I know, it wasn't anything terroristic. IT was most likely fault of the construction.

They don't know yet. CNN is reporting right now. Possible construction issue.

edit. OMG - CNN reported that 3 people are confirmed deceased.
So sorry for the families of all effected. They are saying that a schoolbus was on the bridge as well..but that the childern have been evacuated. So sad and tragic.

No one knows for sure. Portland is a city that prides itself on its bridges as much as it is dependent upon them. The Willamette River divides the city into East and West. It is no small worry that it could happen here. I won't even hazard a pun with this topic. I feel for those poor souls who were on the bridge when it collapsed.
