something I think about. What are your thoughts. For those ofyo who dont know what peak oil is. It is the point in time that Oil production peaks then goes into decline as we slowly but surely run out of it. Prices will go up and as it gets worse the standard of living will go down. It is forecast to happen any time between 2010 to 3020

I ment 2030 sorry. Also do you not think govements will squabble over the lat bits of oil rather than actually work together?? Russia has already started by claiming much of the artic for itself so it can get the oil there.

We desperately need to develop an alternative to fossil fuel, or shortages are going to cause much pain. Instead of spending 500 billion to rebuild Iraq, it would have been much smarter to invest that money in science projects to develop new fuel sources. That would also help our chemist employment who have been devastated by outsourcing. It would do a great deal to eliminate the money going to terrorist and unfriendly governments, and that would help keep the peace.

It has already begun.

Remember many other countries were involved in WWII years before the United States got involved!

Now with the U.S. selling more weaponry to Saudi Arabia and Russia selling more weaponry to Iran WW III should be in full swing in short time!

EDIT: There are some interesting articles on the web that conclude that the U.S. sits on all of the oil that we need to be completely independent of foreign oil.
There was a priest or minister that worked in Alaska (sorry I don't recall his name) in the 60's & 70's that had daily contact with CEO's of a major oil exploration Co. (not sure which one).
They hired him to minister to the guys they had doing work exploring for oil in Alaska because they were becoming hard to manage because of the long hours of work.
Anyway one day they called him into the main office and made him sign a confidenciality (sp) agreement because they had struck a humungous oil reserve.
They didn't want anyone to know about it.

Here....I'll be back with the link......just a minute.

Yeah well I am a terrible secretary! LOL!

I do alot of research but keep terrible notes!

Anyway basically they made this guy and everyone who worked there sign a confidentiality agreement.
We have all the oil we need.
Our government wants to keep our resources so they can be utilized when everyone else runs low or out.
Makes sense in one regard I guess but is it worth all of the warring we will be engaged in for years and years and years!?!?!?!

I don't think so!

I think peak oil has a chance to cause wars all over...

I hope we will be able to cooperate and work together to adjust and develop alternative energy sources like nuclear and solar space satelites and geo thermel and bio..

Edit: Oil is not just about govts. Oil is a commodity in a market and is bought and sold all over the world.

I'm more worried about wars over water. Water is different than oil because it is the access to water and water rights that is critical. And there is already tension between countries over sharing water from a river.

And yes I think people can cooperate and work together. If the govts and politicians don't stop us.

There are some who argue that the period of peak oil has already come and gone and that we're in a decline. You're right that peak oil might have geopolitical implications, as well as being a disaster for the industrialized world.

The possibility of a big war appears to be there for a long time. But, the possible effects of a nuclear war and the lethal effect it is going to have on both sides in the war is indeed deterring the players from precipitating the war.
